January: Kevin


The first book for our club was the Crimson Bound, it was chosen by Kevin and reviewed by the original 3 members. Unfortunately, only 2 of the 3 members read the book and it was...Good. Sitting down to write this post with another member Keisha the verdict is that it was a fine book. Keisha even looked into other books by the author Rosamund Hodge. I happened to think it was a fine book as well. However, when it came to how the book ended we were at an impasse. 

 Without giving anything away, the book ended abruptly and without tying things up with a nice tidy red bow. I loved this. I thought, with the tone of the book and what happened towards the end it was a fine way to end the story. As not everything needs a nice tidy end. Keisha felt that the ending seemed as if the author simply got tired and stopped writing. "I feel as though the ending needed a whole chapter and not just a paragraph." 

 While the Third member of the club never read the book for "reasons". I'd recommend it to any avid YA reader who wonders about other tellings of Little Red Riding Hood. When asked who Keisha would recommend this book to she replied. "Yes, to anyone who loves reading!"

Februarys book was chosen by Keisha. While she doesn't remember why she chose this book I think we all enjoyed it. By we, I mean the 5 of us. At this point, the club had grown to include Keisha, Kevin, Key, and now Samantha. Kevin remarked on how Lifetime-y it was that feeling was mutual. The Secret Mother did well keeping us guessing at some points but like other books similar it was pretty easy for you to figure what was around the next twist.  Kevin felt as though writers for this type of book try too hard to keep you guessing and it occasionally messes with the pacing. Keisha felt that it was a well laid out and overall she really liked the book. Key was kept entertained and felt that she was kept in the dark for most of the book.
